Superbowl Sunday

Caroline asked: TGIF means "Thank Goodness it's Friday".

Frankly Scarlet, I don't care. I know that for some folks this is a really big deal, but I'd much rather be focused on other things. So here is some news of my Friday Field Trip with quilt friend Alayne. We drove north, about 30 minutes and then decided a brief coffee stop was necessary. Well, while there didn't seem to be one of those big name coffee stores, we found the perfect place,

so we enjoyed ourselves with a very well made latte and a gevuld koek. (my loose translation is a filled cookie. Shortbread dough with an almond filling. Yowser! It was great. Lekker.)

We then continued driving north to Burlington. It really isn't much of a town, but has a huge outlet mall. And there one can find the Sewers Dream Fabric Outlet. You can read about Peggy - the co-developer and co-founder of Omni Grid products. It is one of those places that are usually worth the effort to get there as one can find all sorts of marvelous things - including a wall full of tools (photos below) a wall full of fabrics on bolts, tables full of flat folds, as well as bins of 'by the pound' yardage. I found 30 fat 1/8's that I'll take along as little gifts to some of the gals I have met/will meet in the Netherlands, next month. Their fabric is so incredibly expensive that these are fun little treats.

There were also a few things that I just NEEDED, too. So I found some springtime fabrics to make the grands some new pillowcases,

Butterfilies for the sweet girls and my dear GS got baseballs. [Nana may make some boxer shorts, too.

In the 'by the pound' bin, I found a group of fabrics that were just fabulous and I couldn't live without. And besides, they only cost (a total of) $3.96. Just under one pound of name brand cottons.

Guess where I'm headed?

wow! too bad I don't live closer! That sounds like a great day! Starting off with some almond flavored dutch pastries can always make the start of an awesome day. :) And looks like you found some great bargains as well. I forgot to answer your question about the Retayne--it might be a nice little gift (they are 4 oz. bottles for $2.50 ea. at JoAnn's.com) that they absolutely cannot get over there.

Loved the pics of the fabric outlet...and when I read the word lekker...It made me a bit homesick for my South AFrican friends. A word you don't hear every day. Thanks for making my day.

Oh, I wish I was in Seattle, doing quiltshopping and having coffee together, and see familiar places. It seems you have a wonderful time. Can't wait till the 6 of Marc. groetjes Caroline
